Llyn Peninsula Cottages

The Llyn Peninsula extends 30 miles into the Irish Sea and historically it was used by pilgrims travelling to Bardsey Island. Now it is a holiday maker’s paradise, especially with its very own micro climate. You will be pleased to know the south side of the island is often referred to as the Welsh Riviera with its long sandy beaches and calm seas plus a lovely selection of holiday cottages on the Llyn Peninsula.

The whole peninsula is an area of outstanding natural beauty and covers 62 square miles in the county of Gwynedd, with a glorious coastline, mostly dog friendly if you do take your four legged friend. It is predominantly a plateau with some distinctive volcanic hills and mountains, to the north are cliffs and rocks with offshore islands and stacks, the south has the famous sandy beaches and in between a patchwork of green fields, so lots of varied walking for outdoor enthusiasts. When choosing cottage rentals on the Llyn Peninsula use the special features to help you find exactly what you are looking for such as sea view, rural, near a pub or enclosed garden, the choice really is yours.

With nearly 100 miles of coastline, of which 84 miles is part of the Wales Coast Path, you can do long linear walks or circular walks and pass through coves, beaches, along cliff tops, beside churches and forts, as well as lots of welcoming pubs and cafes serving traditional food and drink. The whole area is noted for its large number of protected sites, 20 are sites of Special Scientific Interest, and the area is home to a rare bee not to be found anywhere else, so keep your eye out. The marine and bird life are second to none all year round and if you’re lucky you may spot a ‘super pod’, a large group of dolphins that gather together to hunt shoals of small fish.

There is a lot to do and see, Criccieth is a great base with Victorian terraces and a castle whilst Abersoch and Pwllheli attract all the yachts and sailors. Water activities are based around the peninsula with excellent surfing in the right conditions.

Llanbedrog Beach is one of the calmest in Wales, a mile long and perfect for families as is Porth Neigwi which attracts surfers and at 4 miles long there is more than enough room for everyone. Port Oer Beach is famous for the squeaking sand, there is only one other beach in Europe that does this. A self catering holiday is the best way to enjoy a holiday in this magical part of North Wales.
