The North Devon Coast was designated an area of natural beauty in 1959 and covers 66 square miles of glorious coastal landscape. Stretching from the border of Exmoor at Combe Martin to the Cornish border at Marshland Mouth you can be sure of a fantastic self-catering holiday here.

This is a great area for a walking holiday with lots of family friendly walks, perfect for dogs as well, being right by the sea you’ll be passing through some real hidden gems. Ilfracombe has lots of short walks plus you can enjoy an ice cream as well! To conquer local Hillsborough go through the harbour up the hillside to see a fantastic view over Beacon Point and back over the town. A lovely walk starts and finishes in the pretty village of Lee, a 4 mile route including heathlands, a lighthouse and great sea views.
On the Hartland Peninsula start at Hartland Quay and walk along the coast with hanging valleys, waterfalls and return via St Nectan’s Church in Stoke village which is also known as ‘the Cathedral of North Devon’. Whilst on the peninsula make sure you visit Clovelly, a very special historic fishing village with only donkeys and sledges as transport on its streets. The flower adorned cottages lead you to a tiny working port and a 14th century quay where you can take a boat trip along the coast and spot the marine and bird life.
For a bit of action head for Bideford which is an attractive town on the west bank of the River Torridge and at Woolacombe, a perfect base for a family holiday, there are great pubs and a variety of water sports on offer.
Croyde Bay boasts one of the best surf beaches in the world, has a lifeguard at peak times and allows dogs from October to April. With rock pools, a variety of footpaths, great views from Baggy Point and all types of water based activities it’s no wonder it is such a firm favourite for many.
