Whitby is a very lively tourist attraction and known as the jewel of the Yorkshire coast, with abbey ruins, museums, a lovely harbour and beach and tasty freshly caught fish and chips.
Don’t miss a ride on the North Yorkshire Moors Steam railway which runs from Pickering to Whitby and provides a perfect opportunity for you to digest the natural beauty of this unspoilt and stunning region.
Scarborough, a Victorian seaside town, is full of surprises with a famous theatre, castles and museums. Add to this a Sea Life Centre, great beaches and harbour you can be sure there’ll never be a dull moment and there’s plenty of traditional fare and locally brewed beers to sample.
If you enjoy star gazing head for Sutton Bank which is an official Dark Sky Discovery Site with very low levels of pollution and clear far reaching horizons, you just need to time your visit with a crystal clear night. Dalby Forest provides plenty of activities in its northern uplands and southern valleys. Move through the trees and enjoy amazing views of the Vale of Pickering at Go Ape! Enjoy a host of cycle trails – from challenging single track rides to scenic cycle trails for all the family and beautiful woodland walking trails.
The coastline has a great fishing heritage which has helped shape and mould the unique character of the villages just waiting to be discovered, try chatting to the local fisherman to find out more. Whitby was the start of many of Captain Cook’s world voyages so don’t miss a trip to The Captain Cook Inn in Staithes to soak in the atmosphere.
