Come and discover 2 Cilwendeg Lodge, a beautifully restored, Grade II listed lodge retreat that is nestled within the quaint hamlet of Newchapel, surrounded by rolling countryside and encompassed by the 350-acre historic Cilwendeg Estate. It’s the perfect location for discovering this beautiful part of Pembrokeshire, with a plethora of stunning walks from your doorstep. Newchapel also benefits from a traditional Welsh pub, a 5-minute walk away, specialising in locally brewed ales. On an evening you can enjoy clear night skies, and watch the stars and comets from the warmth of your hot tub with a glass of wine, pure bliss. Locally there are some truly beautiful beaches and coves, with the Pembrokeshire Coast Path within a 30 minutes’ drive away. Newport Sands, Poppit Sands and Mwnt Beach are all not to be missed for fishing, kayaking, swimming or a relaxing stroll.
This pretty detached lodge has been finished to a superb standard throughout with a high level of comfort in mind, offering a spacious open plan kitchen and dining room, perfect for entertaining or cooking that special meal. On an evening you can relax in front of the wood burner with a good book whilst your children are playing in the games room. Both bedrooms have been lovingly furnished to a high standard with some indulgent touches. Enjoy dining al fresco with a barbecue on your private patio area then retire to the hot tub.
Back in the late 18th century, an enormously wealthy lighthouse builder built the Cilwendeg Estate, which includes a huge mansion house, now privately owned, and he also restored the long neglected medieval chapel. His nephew inherited the estate and built the most remarkable garden building in Wales, The Shell House, in his uncle’s honour. You will be amazed by this extraordinary Gothic sight in a woodland retreat, the walls are a profusion of seashells and coloured glass fragments! The Shell House and chapel are open to visitors on a Thursday from April to September. There are footpaths through the estate, which still has a working farm, and at the end of a lovely walk they will bring you out at the nearby pub in Newchapel, perfect! The name of the village of Boncath, where you will find the village shop and post office, comes from the Welsh name for buzzard, and you will see plenty around, along with red kites and lots of other wildlife. Beach 9 miles. Shop 1½ miles, pub 200 yards, restaurant 2 miles.
