A beautifully renovated 19th century croft cottage. The owners have done an exquisite job restoring the exterior and bringing the interior to a very high, luxurious standard. It’s a gorgeous holiday cottage for a couple.
An Airigh is a beautiful croft cottage on the Isle of Skye. Built in the 19th century, the owners have done wonders in renovating and decorating the interior to a very high standard. It’s an absolute joy of a holiday cottage. The setting too is fabulous.
Five miles north of Broadford, the cottage is detached, but next door to the current owners house. It has sea views and the islands of Scalpay and Raasay are just across the water. The north eastern coast of Skye is also visible with The Old Man of Storr easily spotted on a clear morning. Before going into the cottage, you’ll be lured down to the seashore to explore the grounds. There is direct access to the sea, with a slipway that you can use for kayaks and canoes. There are also many seating areas around the croft, set on lovely little plateaus taking in the vast views. A little footpath network connects the different parts of the grounds. There are a couple of seating areas that have the view you enjoy from the cottage, but also the view round to the Red and Black Cuillin; it’s simply mesmerising. Marsco and Glamaig especially are towering and so very close.
The wildlife spotting is sensational from An Airigh. There’s an otter holt nearby, so you have an excellent chance of seeing otters roaming around whilst you’re taking in the views. There are golden and sea eagles in the area and red deer can be spotted daily on the deserted Isle of Scalpay just across the water. Out in the bay you have the chance to see dolphins, porpoises and seals. It’s a truly spectacular spot and one that you’ll want to return to again and again. Being based in Ard Dorch for adventures on Skye is a very good choice. You can access the Red and Black Cuillin very easily as you are close to both the northern trailheads near Sligachan and also the southern trailheads on the road to Elgol. Five miles north of Broadford opens up the whole of the island perfectly for days of exploring every corner of Skye. Beach 200 yards. Shop, pub and restaurant 5 miles.
