Apartment 14 offers guests comfort, contemporary facilities and quality furnishings. Off the open plan living area is a good sized private patio with level access directly into the surrounding woodland, which offers a tranquil spot for enjoying warmer days. From its architectural design in the early 1800s, Hazelwood Hall has enjoyed an eclectic history of inhabitants. It has been a private residence, nursing home, and a religious retreat to add to the mix. Prior to conversion as it stands today, the hall was home to a prosperous lawyer as well as a Bradford wool merchant, and served as an elegant stately home and country retreat for Harold Carrington of Carrington and Dewhurst, cotton manufacturers.
An architect led restoration in 2006 to return the hall to its former glory led to the Hazelwood Hall we can see and enjoy today. Within both the original building and the sympathetically designed ’East Wing’ containing Apartment 14, luxury apartments have been designed in a blend of classic and contemporary styles, and wherever possible the original period features of the building have been retained or sensitively restored. The 18½ acre grounds of Hazelwood Hall were extensively redesigned by celebrated Victorian landscape garden designer, Thomas Mawson, around 1916. Thomas Mawson’s gardens are renowned amongst the prestigious landscape architects of today, and his book ’The Art and Craft of Garden Making’ is now regarded as ’the foundation of contemporary landscape architecture’. The former glory of these superior gardens has now been brought back to life with much care and attention, and is now a true wonder to behold all year round. Guests to Apartment 14 are free to enjoy the results of painstaking restoration and ongoing attention, and will find walks of the gardens and woodland grounds a joy, head to the viewing point for beautiful views over Morecambe Bay.
Situated within the Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Hazelwood Hall sits within easy walking distance to the village centre. Surrounded by the tidal sands of Morecambe Bay, ancient woodlands and marshes famous for its bird inhabitants, Silverdale is home to Leighton Moss RSPB Nature Reserve. A short drive finds south Lakeland with Lake Windermere and Bowness just a 45-minute drive. Kendal the popular historic market town, delightful Kirkby Lonsdale and Grange-over-Sands are all within a short drive. Beach 1 mile. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.
