Auchengruith Cottage is a truly special rural retreat and commanding probably some of the most breathtaking views the region has! Auchengruith Cottage is beautiful picture postcard perfect cottage beautifully furnished throughout and the transformation from the semi-derelict cottage to the wonderful cottage it is today is wonderful. At one time part of the Drumlanrig Estate, Auchengruith Cottage renovations were completed in Spring 2022. It is hard to believe that in the late 1950s the house was inhabited by the local Stockman and his cows!
The décor and furnishings throughout are beautiful with large comfortable sofas, wonderful artefacts and sumptuous beds and bedding you certainly will be spoilt. Not only is Auchengruith Cottage pretty special, but your surrounding views are also too. Set high up in the Lowther Hills and close to Scotland’s highest village, Wanlockhead, the cottage is the perfect place for a family or friends to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Whilst Auchengruith Cottage offers you a tranquil setting, it is only a short drive from many attractions and amenities in the area. Drumlanrig Castle along with its 90,000-acre estate is a fabulous day out and only a short drive away. Visit the castle and take a tour or just enjoy the grounds where you can try one of the championship mountain biking trails or you can just relax with a day’s fishing on the river. There are numerous activities for kids from the adventure playground (restricted opening) to ranger-led wildlife walks.
Further afield in this beautiful corner of Dumfries and Galloway, there are attractions in abundance from beautiful sandy beaches to dramatic cliff tops along the majestic Solway Coast. And of course, a must is a visit to Wanlockhead itself home of the Museum of Lead Mining where you can visit the Museum’s gold panning area and have a go yourself – finding gold though is not guaranteed but have some fun trying! Pub and restaurant 6½ miles.
