Peebles, 15 miles away has good restaurants, galleries and independent shops. Glentress mountain bike trails are 17 miles away and Innerleithen 21½ miles. Edinburgh, using the park and ride, is a day’s entertainment while Glasgow is equally easily enjoyed. Fishing can be found nearby. Shop and restaurant 4½ miles, pub 3 miles.
