South Walsham Broad is an expanse of water with a tiny village staithe, a waterway accessed only by rowing boats and paddle boards. The village is home to the award-winning Fairhaven Woodland and Water Gardens, 130 acres of wildlife gardens with footpaths to explore through ancient woodland on the edge of South Walsham inner broad or enjoy a guided boat trip. The water gardens were created by the 2nd Lord Fairhaven in 1946, and on his death he requested the gardens be left in Trust for the public to enjoy. There is also a very popular tea room, open to all. Walkers can further delight by the 6-mile circular route leading from South Walsham Broad to Upton, passing along Fleet Dyke and the River Bure, Upton Broad and Marshes Nature Reserve. This is a great location from which to explore all Norfolk’s delights, the wonderful coastline and the famous Broads National Park. There are plenty of wide sandy beaches backed by sand dunes and traditional seaside resorts filled with amenities.
Shopaholics can head to the medieval city of Norwich with its two indoor shopping malls, a market square and plenty of eateries. For those seeking culture and history, why not visit the Blickling Hall Estate, Flebbrigg Hall, Sheringham Gardens, the Thursford and Muckleburgh Collections? Young at heart will enjoy a day out at BeWILDerwood in Horning, Roar Dinosaur Adventure Park at Lenwade, Banham Zoo or Amazonia Zoo in Cromer. Birdwatchers will delight at this location, also having the RSPB nature reserve marshes of Blakeney, Cley-next-the Sea and Salthouse.
