Bute Cottage is a well-appointed, detached, single-storey cottage overlooking its own lochan in Daliburgh, South Uist, in the Outer Hebrides. The cottage is well-equipped to make for an enjoyable stay and makes a great base to see all that the islands have to offer. A short drive takes you to Eriskay, where you can catch the ferry to Barra. Askernish Golf Course, designed by Tom Morris, is the oldest golf course in the Western Isles. The Uists islands have so much to offer for outdoor enthusiasts, artists and photographers, as well as bird watchers, walkers and people with an interest in archaeology. The birdlife and wildlife are wonderful, with eagles, corncrakes and the RSPB Balranald nature reserve. Whales and basking sharks all visit in the summer, and the machair is a mass of colour with all the different wild flowers, perfect for walking and discovering the pristine white sandy beaches on the west side.
There are many historic and archaeological sites to explore, including The Bonnie Prince Charlie Trail, Trinity Temple at Carnish and the Kildonan Museum. The Uist Outdoor Centre in Lochmaddy offers a wide range of activities including sea kayaking, diving, boat trips, whale watching and so much more. Take a boat trip out to the Monarch Isles and the remote island of St Kilda. The sunrise and sunsets, seascape, landscape and dark skies will amaze you. Getting to the Outer Hebrides is not as expensive as you may think. Road equivalent tariff applies for ferry fares which give really good value for travel costs. Beach 2 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant ¼ mile.
