Steps lead you up to the front door, stepping inside the house is bright and welcoming, with high ceilings as well as tall windows, bathing the rooms in light. At the front of the house is the living room with large bay windows, and comfortable seating on sofas around the TV and fireplace. The dining room is separate, with the galley kitchen at the rear of the house with a door leading out into the garden. Up on the first floor you have the family bathroom as well as the first two bedrooms, both with kingsize beds. Then on the second floor under the eaves you have the twin bedroom with great views from the Velux window across the town. Outside there is a good sized garden with a seating area on the patio, surrounded by plants and flowers, bursting with colour through the spring and summer.
There are restaurants, bars, pubs and shops within a short stroll, and both the North and South bay are around a 20-minute walk. Once on the seafront there are over three miles of flat promenade to walk along, crossing from South Bay to North Bay, separated by the castle on the hilltop. At the far end of the North Bay there is the Sealife Centre as well as Peasholm Park with wooded walks, a tumbling stream, and a lake where boats and pedalos can be hired, both great visits for all the family. You also have one of Europe’s largest open-air theatres, hosting an exciting line up of live performances over the summer.
Alpamare Water Park and spa is ideal for a self-indulgent day out, where you can swim in steaming hot outdoor pools, book in for a massage, or enjoy sea views from the sauna. The gently shelving, wide sandy beaches at Scarborough have won several awards for cleanliness. The resorts of Filey, Flamborough Head and Bridlington are further south, whilst to the north, Robin Hood’s Bay, Whitby, Sandsend, Runswick Bay and Staithes are all very popular for day trips. The RSPB bird sanctuary is just along the coast at Bempton Cliffs where thousands of puffins, guillemots, and gannets perch along the rocks. There are viewing points from which to spot all the different breeds of seabirds that arrive every year, as well as the seals that sunbathe on the rocks below.
Within an hour you can be in the medieval, walled city of York with its majestic minster standing proudly in the centre of the city. The narrow-cobbled streets, city walls, individual shops and fantastic museums make it an enjoyable day for all age groups. Take a trip on an open top tourist bus or river boat and learn about the history of the famous city. York can also be reached by train direct from Scarborough, so why not leave the car at home? You are within a 15-minute walk from Scarborough’s train station. All in all, this town house is a great base to visit the east coast of Yorkshire.
