Leave the car at home and take the bus or train into Canterbury and visit the majestic cathedral. Enjoy a boat ride on the River Stour, or explore the city’s old quarter with its restaurants and shops.
There are many castles in Kent, all worthy of a visit. Hever Castle, built in the 13th century, is double moated and has award winning gardens. Dover Castle was founded in the 11th century, and Leeds Castle and Whitstable Castle are also worth a visit. Whilst in Whitstable, why not try the oysters. There is even an annual oyster festival held in the town!.
Alternative days out include Port Lympne Zoo and Howlett’s Zoo, and if you want a day off from site seeing, why not spend a day on one of the many beaches to be found around the Kent coastline. Spot seals off the coast at Herne Bay or visit the Stodmarsh National Nature Reserve. Beach 7 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 0.25 miles.
