Corner House is situated opposite a very popular pub and beautiful St Andrews Church (known as ’the cathedral of the Dale’) in the pretty village of Grinton, Swaledale. This charming, double fronted, semi-detached stone cottage, with traditional features such as beamed ceilings and period fireplaces, offers home from home comforts of modern day living. It has an entrance porch with space for coats, walking boots, walking sticks and umbrellas, as well as room to dry the dog!
The comfortable sitting room, with its multi fuel stove makes a perfect place in which to unwind after a day of exploring. Two picture windows take in amazing views of the church on one side and Fremington Edge on the other. There is a 32", Freesat Smart TV, and a DVD player to provide additional entertainment.
To the front of the house is a pretty enclosed garden, which is a perfect place to sit out with your morning coffee or rest at the end of the day and watch the sun go down. A stream behind the house runs down to the River Swale, about 200 yards away, giving opportunities for riverside walks along part of the Coast to Coast path. The cottage offers wonderful views with the countryside of Swaledale right on your doorstep with walks to suit ramblers and strollers alike. Within easy walking distance is Reeth, which is set around a village green surrounded by cafés, pubs, restaurants, craft and gift shops.
Swaledale is a popular destination for cyclists, following from the Tour de France Grand Depart and the annual Tour de Yorkshire. 2019 sees the cyclists taking part in the World Championships passing through Grinton, the route taking them past Corner House. A short walk along the road takes you to the Dales Bike Centre offering cycle hire, and a must stop is the on-site coffee shop serving excellent cakes and hot drinks.
For food and drink you will be spoilt for choice. The village pub is a 15th-century former coaching house, which overlooks the River Swale and is a popular stopping off point for walkers and cyclists. It is a 50 yards stroll from the cottage and serves good food and local ales. The village of Reeth is a short distance either by foot or car, and has a variety of pubs also serving good food.
The charming town of Richmond with its Norman castle, cobbled market place and Georgian Theatre is within easy reach, as are Easby Abbey, Aysgarth Falls, Bowes Museum, Semerwater and Hardraw Force. Each year the beautiful Yorkshire Dales form the backdrop for a fantastic range of festivals, galas, agricultural shows and large scale events. Whether it’s music, arts, books, walking or even scarecrows, there will be a festival for you.
