Tucked away down a private track is Corrennie School Cottage – a delightful detached single-storey stone property in a mellow cream hue, with roses round the door – just beautiful! Delightfully sheltered, there is a pretty private garden to the front, accessed from the French doors in the living room which lead onto a patio and lawn with table and chairs for al fresco meals. Inside, the smart contemporary colours are complemented by comfy sofas and beds and a well-equipped kitchen with dining area, ensuring a very enjoyable stay. The lovely living room with high ceiling and wood burner with stone surround is just the place to kick off your shoes after a day out exploring this unspoilt area. The cottage is in the heart of Aberdeenshire, in what is known as ‘Castle Country’; the area positively teems with mansions and castles which bear testament to Scotland’s past. There are more castles per acre here than anywhere else in the UK, and you can discover 19 of the most famous and dramatic castles in Aberdeenshire on Scotland’s Castle Trail. Some notable ones nearby include Craigievar, Kildrummie and Drum Castle and of course the famous Balmoral, but if castles are not your thing, there is plenty more to do and see in this unspoilt part of Scotland. As well as good golf courses, superb fishing and hillwalking, The Cairngorm National Park is within easy reach, with magnificent scenery, wildlife and leisure activities to suit all, while the Whisky Trail can be picked up from Dufftown, through Aberlour and down to Grantown on Spey, making a most interesting day out in superb surroundings.
