The Cruck is a gorgeous, 18th-century character property which is perfectly set in between the North York Moors National Park and Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The cottage itself is of the ‘cruck’ construction which was common at the time it was built as the name suggests; however, the owners have given it the love and attention it deserves with a full renovation and made it a fantastic holiday retreat for couples, meaning visitors are ensured of perfection throughout.
You enter the property into the open plan living/kitchen area. The kitchen is well equipped and has all the necessities, should you not with to dine out at the many superb eateries close by. The living area has a comfortable sofa which is great to snuggle up on in front of the fabulous open fire on those colder evenings. The property is open plan throughout the ground floor, except for the separate shower room.
Up one flight of stairs onto the stunning galleried area is a plush double bed with luxurious linen, guaranteeing a perfect night’s sleep after exploring this fabulous area. To the front of the property, you also have a lovely little patio area which is a sun trap, and boasts garden furniture and a barbecue, giving you a great place to sit back and relax whilst enjoying a well-deserved glass of fizz in the summer months, or having your morning coffee and breathing in the fresh country air. Cruck Cottage has plenty of character and has been lovingly decorated and furnished with the owner trying to keep as much of the history within the property with exposed beams throughout.
Helmsley is the closest main town, which is 4 miles down the road, meaning you have quick access to the local pubs, independent cafés, restaurants, shops and Helmsley Brewery. Cruck Cottage also has a gorgeous, 15th century little inn within walking distance which serves great Yorkshire ales and mouth-watering home cooked food, it also has a small beer garden. You have the stunning North York Moors National Park on your doorstep, which is full of bike trails and fantastic, scenic walks, including the very popular Rievaulx Abbey. Other nearby towns include Malton, Pickering, Thirsk and York. If you fancied a day at the beach, Scarborough is approximately a 50-minute drive so, why not pack your bucket and spade. There is so much to see and do from Cruck Cottage, the only issue you will have is fitting it all in so why not book a few extra days!
