This detached cottage is set in the heart of the hamlet of Little Langdale, Dale View perfectly combines traditional features with present day comforts. With one en-suite bedroom in a separate building but plenty of shared living space, it is ideal for families or friends who want their privacy occasionally. Finished to an excellent standard throughout, Dale View provides a special retreat for you to return to after a day exploring the area. Whether you are sitting chatting around the table in the open plan kitchen/dining area, sinking into a comfortable sofa next to the woodburner or soaking in the freestanding bath while admiring the exposed, traditional slate walls, you’ll appreciate the quality of Dale View in every aspect. With views from every window you can plan your next day’s walks as you relax (even if the walk is just down the road to the pub!).
The property is surrounded by the dramatic scenery of the Langdale Pikes which offer a great range of walks and cycle routes. National Cycle Network’s Regional Route 37 between Ambleside and Ulverston runs through the valley. Langdale was historically known as ’Langdene’ meaning ’far away wooded valley’ and was the intersection of packhorse routes leading to Ravenglass, Whitehaven, Keswick, Penrith, Carlisle, Ambleside, Hawkshead, Coniston, Ulverston and Barrow in Furness. At the foot of Wrynose Pass and Hardknott Pass it is interesting to imagine horses following these routes, known as Britain’s two most outrageous roads! There is a lot of fascinating history in the area, for example at the foot of the Wrynose Pass is the ‘Ting Mound’, which is the intriguing and rare remains of a Viking settlement, where Viking open-air parliament was held and new laws proclaimed. More recently Little Langdale was the filming location for the movie ’Snow White and the Huntsman’. Cathedral Quarry is a tourist favourite, showing the real drama of the natural surroundings.
