Ballogie is a place of stunning natural beauty lying on the south side of the river in the heart of Royal Deeside, a working estate abundant with wildlife, Scots Pine trees and heather covered moorland. There is a selection of unique accommodation set in beautiful and varied locations, with something here to suit all tastes, whether you are looking for a venue for larger groups, or something smaller for family or friends. The properties provide the perfect base for exploring the many visitor attractions.
Within the area, you have the National Trust for Scotland castles; Craigievar, a fine example of Scottish Baronial architecture; Crathes, an enchanting 16th-century tower house; and Drum, one of Royal Deeside’s top historic attractions. Being only five miles from Aboyne, nine miles from Banchory, and less than an hour’s drive from Aberdeen, Ballogie is ideal for those who want to get away from it all, but would still like to be within easy reach of local towns and cities. Close to the Forest of Birse, Glencatt and the River Dee, the cottage is perfectly located to offer excellent opportunities for sporting and outdoor enthusiasts, or lovers of wildlife and nature who enjoy long walks and exploring the local countryside. Scotland is one of the finest salmon fishing destinations in Europe, and the River Dee in Aberdeenshire is a lure for fly fishing enthusiasts from all over the world. This majestic, fast flowing stretch of water set amongst the beauty of the Deeside Valley, sweeps along the northern edge of Ballogie Estate, and fishing may be available by arrangement with the owners. But if fishing is not your thing, there are many other activities in the surrounding area including hill walking, quad biking and pony trekking.
The area is a mecca for wildlife enthusiasts, with the Muir of Dinnet Reserve, the Lochnagar Reserve and Mar Estate offering chances to glimpse ospreys, otters and wildfowl especially on the Lochs Kinnord and Davan. The ski slopes at the Lecht and Glenshee can be easily reached and these areas also offer plenty of good hillwalking. Locally, the towns of Ballater, Aboyne and Banchory have plenty of artisan shops and good eating places and on the estate itself is Potarch Café, which has a wonderful array of speciality coffee options and locally sourced produce on the menu, as well as fabulous home bakes.
This recently refurbished (in 2023) cottage provides cosy accommodation for up to six guests in three spacious bedrooms. With an open plan living, dining and kitchen area which boasts a wood burner, and a large bay window overlooking the garden, the property is perfect for a family or group. There are wonderful views of the surrounding area from the enclosed garden, and it also benefits from an outside patio with seating and a parking area. Beach 23 miles.
