Rear garden with patio, garden furniture and barbecue (Shared with Clover Cottage). 2 dogs welcome, to be kept on a lead at all times (sheep country). Private parking for 2 cars. No smoking. Please note: This property has a natural water supply from a borehole.
Daisy Cottage is a semi-detached 300 year old real Devon country cottage with exposed oak beams, wonderful charm and ambience. Originally East Hook farmhouse, the warm and cosy living room has a large open fireplace with a wood burner (the first bundle of logs are provided) a dining table with six chair a TV and DVD player, perfect for relaxing in after a busy day exploring the countryside and moors. The kitchen is spacious and well equipped with an electric cooker, microwave, ¾ size fridge/freezer, slimline dishwasher and a washing machine plus a kitchen table with two chairs. The family bathroom is also downstairs with a shower over the bath, a toilet, wash basin and a heated towel rail. Upstairs are three bedrooms; the first with a standard double bed, the second with twin beds and the third with a single bed and an en-suite with a toilet and wash basin. An extra guest bed can be put into the single bedroom, so the cottage can accommodate a maximum of six people if requested. Daisy Cottage has a seating area and a private lawn at the back of the property.
Both Daisy Cottage and Clover Cottage share a large open grassed area with mature English trees (oaks and ash) with movable picnic tables and a charcoal barbeque, plus benches to enjoy the wonderful view of Dartmoor. Low light pollution makes it perfect for stargazing and a fairytale view of Okehampton located in the valley below, provides a great sight at night.
The farm is managed by the fourth generation of the family who have been welcoming visitors from all over the world to their unique location in West Devon since 1970. On the Tarka Trail and Sustrans Cycleway 27 - "Devon Coast to Coast", the farm is in the centre of the South West peninsula being 100 miles from both Bristol and Land’s End and only 3 miles from the A30. Quiet and peaceful, the cottages are only a 30-minute walk into Okehampton via the Tarka Trail for all local amenities. With the dramatic landscape of Dartmoor National Park nearby, discover the magnificent points of High Willhays and Yes Tor where you can enjoy a scenic hike to the summit for unrivaled views, before embarking on an exhilarating outdoor adventure of canoeing or climbing with Adventure Okehampton.
The Ten Tors Challenge takes part over the Northern half of Dartmoor. The annual event is usually completed in 2 days. There are approximately 400 teams of 6 teenagers who attempt this challenge covering routes of 35, 45 or 55 miles depending on their age. The teams need to be prepared to carry all the equipment they might need for the duration of the challenge including overnight camping equipment. They will visit 10 nominated tors / check points along the way.
There’s plenty of opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors at the nearby Roadford Country Park, Okehampton Castle, the stunning views along the old railway line to Meldon reservoir and Castle Drogo. The location of the cottages makes an ideal base from which to explore the North Cornwall and Devon coastline with stunning beaches at Woolacombe and Sandymouth. Enjoy a day out at Hartland and visit the lighthouse, Hartland Quay and the historic fishing village at Clovelly. If gardens are of interest, you will find the RHS gardens Rosemoor a delight and there are numerous National Trust properties in the surrounding area to enjoy.
