This is an ideal base as within 5 miles are two family beaches, Porthtowan and Portreath, great for water sports and ideal for children. If you like cycling there are fantastic cycle routes to choose from, follow the old engine houses at south Crofty, cycle next to the river Fal, head towards Portscatho, past Trelissick Garden, to Helston and Poldark mine before heading back to the start. The area is steeped in mining heritage, walk along The Flat Lode, climb Carn Brea visit Heartlands Cornish visitor attraction, everywhere you go you will see remnants of history, especially in Redruth town.
If you prefer to walk the choice would be coastal or countryside or try one of the many circular walks that cover both, a pub is usually featured along the route for essential refreshment. If you have young children, they will love Tehidy Woods, there are over 9 miles of paths and over 250 acres of woods and lakes to explore, this mystical area is adjacent to Tehidy golf course, so bring your clubs if you want a round. There is always plenty to see and do locally and if you want to venture further the location is ideal for the A30, travel to the quaint city of Truro, visit St Agnes or Newquay, or travel south to Helston, Porthleven and the Lizard.
