Here in the National Park you have beautiful scenery and quaint rural villages surrounding you, with the coast just a 30-minute drive away. Pickering is an ancient market town with an array of shops and restaurants to choose from, as well as the castle ruins to explore and sits at the foot of the North York Moors National Park. Why not take a ride on the steam railway and travel through the rolling moorland to the coastal town of Whitby. Nearby you also have Dalby Forest, where you will find great walking and cycling tracks. The fabulous Go Ape, a high wire tree top adventure, is situated in the forest, or if you prefer to be closer to the ground, try the forest segways and ride around the forest tracks. Take a day trip to Flamingo Land theme park and zoo, only a few minutes’ drive away. Pickering is in the ideal location for visiting the East coast. Pretty, quaint little villages such as Thornton-le-Dale and Helmsley are within a few minutes’ drive, as well as the big cities of York and Hull. The seaside resorts of Scarborough, Filey, Flamborough, Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay are all within a short drive.
