Whitby is a glorious scenic town, drawing guests from around the world to admire its olde world charm, with the iconic abbey perched on the cliff tops above and the golden beach stretching for miles below. Withnail’s Hideaway is perfectly positioned in the heart of Whitby’s old town, where ancient fishermen’s cottages huddle together forming little gunnels and yards between them.
This is a traditional and authentic cottage, a little wonky in places which adds to its charm. Stepping inside on the ground floor you have the kitchen and dining area, where you can create your own meals if you fancy a cosy night in. Up on the first floor you have the living room, you really feel the cottages age in here, with the old wooden panelling and built in cupboards with the beams above you. Up on the top floor you have the snug bedroom, with a small double bed as well as an en-suite shower room. From here you have views amongst the rooftops with glimpses of the harbour.
Whitby is a seafaring town and proud of its heritage; there are tales of Viking invasions, heroic sea rescues as well as seafaring pioneers. Discover more at the museums, including one on a tall ship in the harbour. There are also festivals throughout the seasons including the bi-annual Goth weekends and the regatta, you can often find live music in the pubs or at the Spa Pavilion.
Further afield the surrounding North York Moors National Park is full of moorland and woodland trails. You can explore by car or hop on the heritage steam train, which leaves Whitby and travels over the moors towards the market town of Pickering, stopping at picturesque villages along the way. There is also an array of seaside towns and villages along the coast to visit, with breath-taking beaches and coves. To the south you have Robin Hoods Bay, Boggle Hole, Ravenscar and Scarborough, and to the north you have Sandsend, Runswick Bay, Staithes and Saltburn. Most pubs and cafés are dog friendly, there is even a dog bakery in the town! Beach ¾ mile. Pub and restaurant 50 yards.
These properties can be booked together to accommodate up to 8 guests.
Please note: There are open, steep, spiral or narrow stairs at the property.
