Conveniently close to both Aysgarth and Hawes, Thornton Rust is the prefect picture postcard village to come and enjoy a slower pace of life, relax and unwind. With a fabulous community spirit, beautiful scenery and walks from your doorstep, it has everything you would want from a Yorkshire Dales holiday. Gallivantin Cottage has been lovingly restored by its owners with meticulous attention to detail and thoughtful touches to make it a memorable stay for all its guests. This stone built cottage is quirky and oozes comfort, character and style. The living room has beams, exposed stonework and a fabulous inglenook fireplace that extends across a full wall, perfect for a cosy winters night in. Step outside and the owners have created a space at the side of the house where you can sit and enjoy the outdoors whether rain or shine.
In the nearby village of Aysgarth, just a 5-minute drive away, you will find a licensed garage and country store. There are two pubs in the village, both serving excellent food and local beers. The wonderfully stocked delicatessen in nearby Leyburn and the creamery at Wensleydale are a food lover’s dream, as are many of the pubs, all serving wonderful local produce. Thornton Rust provides a convenient base for enjoying the great outdoors with many walks accessible from the property and the surrounding villages. From a gentle stroll through sheep filled fields and woodland along the banks of the River Ure, to the more challenging walks to the top of the nearby landmark Penhill. For the more active and keen cyclists, the local roads form part of the annual Tour de Yorkshire.
The cottage is central to all of the attractions of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Nearby Hawes is a market town filled with interesting shops selling local produce, gifts, arts and antiques. The Wensleydale Creamery made famous by the Wallace and Gromit animated series is a worthy visit, with museum, viewing gallery, specialist cheese shop and fully licensed restaurant. Along the route back to Leyburn you will pass through a multitude of picture postcard villages. Visit Aysgarth Falls, Bolton Castle, The Forbidden Corner, complete with follies and surprises, tunnels and chambers all set within a fabulous 4-acre garden, a perfect day out for families. Shop, pub and restaurant 2 miles.
