Gate House is located within walking distance of this unspoilt sailing village, with its three beaches, a picturesque harbour and a selection of shops and pubs. Bembridge Windmill (National Trust) is the only surviving windmill on the Isle of Wight and you can climb to the top and find out how it used to be a working mill.
A short drive away is the seaside town of Sandown, which provides a great day out for all the family. Wildheart Animal Sanctuary is known for rescuing big cats such as tigers and lions, as well as being the home to meerkats, monkeys, birds, farm animals and many more! Children will also love Dinosaur Isle, a museum which contains real bones on display, life-sized models and plenty of interactive exhibits to keep you busy for hours.
The traditional seaside town of Ventnor is also worth a visit, with its micro-climate, shingle beach and Blackgang Chine, the UK’s oldest amusement park. Travel inland to the county town of Newport where you can find plenty of shops, pubs, restaurants and cafés, or explore Carisbrooke Castle with its panoramic views. Beach ¾ mile.
