Welcome to Gew Cottage, a charming retreat perfect for couples and smaller families, nestled in a tranquil village near the historic market town of Helston. This delightful property boasts many original features including exposed stone walls and wooden beams, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere.
Upstairs, you’ll find two comfortable bedrooms and a family bathroom. The spacious living area is perfect for cozy evenings in, complete with a traditional wood burner. The well-equipped kitchen flows into the dining area, where patio doors lead to a lovely courtyard garden, ideal for enjoying meals outdoors, or gathering around the firepit to watch the dramatic night skies.
There is plenty to do in the area, starting with the local public trails around the cottage itself. It is a short stroll down to the Helston heritage railway, where you can enjoy a gentle trundle through the scenic countryside and a pot of tea in the buffet carriage. A little further afield is the Penrose Estate, from where you can walk down to Loe Bar and connect to the coastal path. When the ‘mizzle’ clears, take in the panoramic views from atop Godolphin Hill.
The cottage is the ideal base from which to explore the beautiful beaches of West Cornwall and the Lizard. The nearest beach is at Porthleven, a pretty fishing village famous for its clocktower, restaurants and pubs. Further along the Lizard you will find Poldhu, a sheltered cove that is great for swimming and rock pooling. Alternatively, head north to St Ives Bay, and the huge golden sand beach at Gwithian which is popular with surfers.
It is only a short drive to Falmouth, and its art galleries, maritime museum and the spectacular Pendennis Castle. Visitors can take a short boat trip over to St Mawes, or the gardens at Trelissick. Explore the ancient woodland around the Helford River, and Frenchman’s Creek, either on foot or even by kayak. Michael’s Mount is less than half an hour’s drive, continue along the coast to the thermal swimming pool in Penzance, and the open air Minack Theatre cut into the cliff high above Porthcurno.
