Greenhill is a very special holiday home tucked away in a tiny settlement called Torvaig, near Portree. Greenhill is a detached bungalow and has been completely renovated to a very good standard of accommodation. There are three bedrooms, a family bathroom, a living/dining room with open fire, and a kitchen. It’s a perfect house for families because it has an amazing enclosed garden.
The location is truly spectacular, at the road end with one of the best views on the island, and that’s saying something. At the front of the property, the garden spills away to reveal the Sound of Raasay and the channel that leads to Portree harbour, as well as the striking hill Ben Tianavaig across the water. It’s a sublime situation and you will be blown away every time you gaze out to look.
Even though you’re so close to Portree, this location is amazingly quiet: partly because the road to Portree is a few miles round, and not direct, which means you’re still close for the shops, bars, cafés and restaurants, but have the advantage of peace and quiet, your own little tranquil slice of heaven. This quiet helps attract Skye’s wildlife, and just below the property and to the left where the land spills away to the coast, there are cliffs where sea eagles and golden eagles nest. Also there are regular sightings of dolphins at the mouth of Portree Bay, which you can see from Greenhill.
Just under 3 miles to Portree by car, you’re a shorter walk away. There’s a fabulous trail that loops right by the house and is a popular walk for locals and visitors to Portree alike. Staying at Greenhill you can use the Scorrybreac Trail to get in and out of the town. To the centre of Portree it is only a 1-mile walk. Beach 7 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 2½ miles.
