Upton beach is a shingle beach under the cliff with a multitude of rocks with rock pools to explore as the tide drops down and then from mid to low tide a sandy section is exposed. The beach does not have a lifeguard but it is fabulous for surfing in the right conditions. If you prefer a lifeguard beach, Widemouth Bay or Summerleaze Beach in Bude are both nearby sandy beaches. The coastal footpath is absolutely spectacular in this part of Cornwall and the cliffs south towards Crackington Haven from Widemouth Bay are as dramatic as anything else found in Cornwall.
