Honey Meadow Cottage is a stylishly presented, semi-detached barn conversion with exposed beams, and makes an ideal holiday destination for couples seeking peace and tranquillity. The cottage adjoins the owner’s home and is surrounded by fields, trees and wildlife. It lies on the edge of the hamlet of Sharpthorne, in West Sussex, with footpaths emanating from the doorstep. This includes easy access to part of the Sussex Border Path, which runs for 138 miles in total, and is great for exploring the East and West Sussex borders.
Steam train enthusiasts need look no further than the Bluebell Railway, where the largest collection of steam locomotives in the south can be found running on 22 miles of track between East Grinstead and Sheffield Park. Horsted Keynes railway station is popular as a film location for productions including Downton Abbey, Muppets Most Wanted Movie and Churchill’s Secrets. Nature lovers will enjoy Weir Wood Reservoir on the north western edge of the Ashdown Forest, where kingfishers, terns and osprey can be spotted. The South of England Showground is close by and holds a plethora of events including country shows, and is the location for Ardingly Antiques & Interiors. Hop off the steam train at Sheffield Park and see the magnificent gardens designed by Capability Brown, or visit the Millennium Seed Bank at Wakehurst. Also recommended is National Trust Standen, an Art and Crafts Movement house, which contains Morris & Co furniture and furnishings. Or visit the Priest House in West Hoathly, which dates back to the 15th century and was once owned by Henry VIII. London Gatwick airport can by reached in 20 minutes, and there are good rail connections to London for further sightseeing opportunities. There is coarse fishing at Ardingly Reservoir and Weir Wood Reservoir (licence required), where a day ticket costs £11. Beach 20 miles. Shop and pub 1½ miles, restaurant ½ mile.
