Most of the village is a designated conservation area with a myriad of buildings listed individually as having special historic or architectural interest. There is an array of shops and restaurants, and a small harbour. Right opposite the boat yard is an aqua sports centre where wake board, kayak, stand up paddle boarding and tuition is available; fun can be had at the inflatable aqua park and ringo rides. St. Martins Farm is a great place for a walk to take in the wildlife. A short distance away are Clacton and Walton with their piers and amusements and an array of beach huts for hire. In the summer months there are free firework displays set to music.

Castle Park offers something for all ages with a play park, bouncy castle, crazy golf, boating lake and bandstand. Why not watch a game of cricket at the Essex Cricket Ground adjacent to the park?
