Where the River Exe meets Winn Brook, in a pretty valley setting just north of Dulverton, you will find Karslake Cottage. Fully renovated to a high standard in 2021, this beautiful semi-detached property sits in the heart of the village of Winsford, considered to be one of the prettiest in Exmoor. Retaining many of its original features and stylishly presented throughout, it is an ideal location for enjoying the delights of this lovely area. The ample entrance hall leads to a gorgeous, spacious comfortable living room with oak beams, and an impressive inglenook fireplace housing a wood burning stove which still has the original bread oven in place, the perfect spot to cosy up with a drink and watch a film after a days exploring. Also accessed from the hallway is a utility room and separate toilet. Two steps lead up to the exceptionally well equipped and attractively presented kitchen/dining room boasting a vaulted ceiling, large Aga and Belfast sink. A curved staircase, narrow in parts, leads up from the kitchen to the galleried landing where one step down takes you into the stylishly presented spacious double bedroom. Along the landing, one step down is a further attractively furnished double bedroom, and a stunning bathroom with a fabulous roll top, claw footed slipper bath plus separate shower cubicle serves both rooms. Accessed from the kitchen is the pretty south facing tiered garden, with seating on both levels, fully enclosed and with a patio area plus barbecue.
A couple of minutes’ walk from the cottage is a local tea room and the picturesque thatched 12th century Royal Oak Inn offering a good choice of food. The small medieval town of Dulverton, which has a good selection of quality shops, tea rooms and the National Park Visitors Centre is just a short drive. Ideally suited to couples, friends, and families with older children, this lovely home from home will provide a warm welcome at any time of the year. Karslake Cottage sits within the boundaries of Exmoor National Park, which offers great walking for all abilities, a wide range of wildlife including deer and the famous Exmoor ponies, and some superb places to visit including Withypool, Lanacre and Tarr Steps. The Exmoor town of Dulverton is worth a visit and has a good range of shops and restaurants. Looking towards the coast, there is the medieval town of Dunster with its castle (NT), and then on to Minehead, which also has a larger range of shops and amenities, as well as the West Somerset Railway and beach area. Other areas of interest close by are Porlock and Porlock Weir, and a little further along the coast are Lynton and Lynmouth, the two towns being connected by the Victorian cliff railway. Spend a day on the beach at Dunster or Blue Anchor.
