Kiln Cottage Whitby is a charming Grade II listed property located in the heart of Whitby’s Old Town set in a gated private yard just off the most historic part of cobbled Church Street right at the foot of the famous 199 steps. This characterful and delightful two-bedroom, pet-friendly cottage retains many traditional features such as ledge and brace internal doors and an original beam reportedly rescued from a ship’s timber.
Kiln Cottage Whitby is furnished to a high standard providing all modern-day comforts and is just a stone’s throw from the delights of what the Old Town has to offer, including the historic marketplace, bistros, cafés, restaurants, boutiques, the harbourside, and Tate Hill Sands. Open the gate and walk through the archway into a very quiet and secluded oasis that is Kiln Yard, away from the hustle and bustle of Old Whitby’s ancient cobbled streets.
Step inside Kiln Cottage Whitby and you will be surprised at how light, spacious, and welcoming it is. The living room has new sofas and features a fireplace. This leads through to the large open-plan kitchen/dining room. Upstairs there are two beautifully presented bedrooms, one with a super king-size bed, and one with a double bed. The shower room is fresh and modern with views from the Velux window of the iconic 199 steps, St. Mary’s Church, and Caedmon’s Cross.
Just around the corner from Kiln Cottage Whitby, you have the picturesque Henrietta Street and the home of Fortune’s Smokehouse and their famous kippers, and a little further along reveals a stunning vista of the harbour and piers which stand proud guarding the entrance of the River Esk and the ancient port of Whitby.
Whitby Harbour is steeped in history, and visitors can see where British Explorer Captain James Cook first worked as an Apprentice before setting sail and discovering Australia. A Statue of this Great Explorer stands proudly above the Town along with the Whale bones on the West Cliff, a testament to the Town’s maritime whaling history.
The East Side and Old Town have been inspiring visitors, Artists, and writers for over 1500 years and are probably most famously featured in Bram Stoker’s Gothic novel "Dracula". Just imagine being where Stoker immortalized the black hound escaping up the 199 steps from the ship-wrecked Demeter on Tate Hill Sands, all literally on the doorstep of Kiln Cottage Whitby!
