Step into this unique space converted from a decommissioned 1930’s NE cargo railway carriage, for a cosy romantic holiday experience. Set at the end of a wooded lane, through a farm gate, this utterly charming former carriage is packed with quirky features to provide you with a getaway break different to all others.

With a light and airy open plan space, the glazed doors open onto a small private garden, with bespoke fittings specially crafted for the carriage. The day bed turns into a cosy double bed with memory mattress and topper providing a perfect sleeping space. The hand-crafted kitchen area is distressed wood with a small hob and oven/grill with plenty of cooking equipment for two people. The wet shower room is set just off the living area and is modern and tastefully presented.

One of four dwellings next to the main farmhouse on a small 18th century farmstead overlooking the Column of Liberty with beautiful views of the Derwent valley and the fabulous National Trust Gibside Estate well known for the red kites around the area. The south-facing Carriage has a private garden with seating for dining, relaxing, bird watching and star gazing. From here you can wander through the garden gate into the meadow down to the River for some wild swimming, fishing or exploring miles of cycling and walking paths. On sunny days you may see the resident chickens and ducks, the owner also has three beehives on the farm.

Set near the Derwent River, next to the Derwent Walk and the C2C cycle route, the countryside has lots of beauty spots for walking, running, cycling and swimming. An easy walk takes you to the village with a café, small supermarket, chemist, hairdresser, beautician, florist, newsagent, fish & chip shop and micro pub. The railway carriage is hidden in a quiet rural setting and it’s only a 10 minute drive to the A1 (North/South) and 15 minutes from A69 Hexham/Carlisle. 10 miles to Newcastle, 14 miles to Durham, 18 miles from the North Sea and 4 miles to the Metro Centre. A short walk takes you to the bus stop with regular buses to Newcastle and beyond.
Tiny House Railway Carriage Number 1 can be booked together with Stable House (UK3434) and Gardeners Cottage (UK3435) to accommodate up to 10 guests.
