Longa House is an exceptional coastal holiday home overlooking Loch Gairloch and set within a crofting community on the famous North Coast 500 route. From the double height windows there are panoramic views south to the Torridon mountains, west to the Cuilins of Skye and north west to the Outer Hebrides of Harris and Lewis. Whether you’re standing on the decking, sitting in the lounge by the woodburner or gazing out from the mezzanine viewing lounge you will be amazed as the weather systems sweep past from the Atlantic beyond.
Some of the best scenery in Europe is on your doorstep, whether heading north to the Lighthouse near Loch Ewe where the North Atlantic Fleet was based during WW11, or south along to Badachro’s sheltered harbour and on to Redpoint where ’ What we did on our holidays’ was filmed. Driving through the Torridons and over the UK’s steepest climb to Applecross or north to Ullapool and Assynt you’ll be speechless.
This is a nature lover’s paradise as sheep and cattle roam freely, seeing gannets diving in the Loch or sea eagles in the hills, spotting otters and pine martens and dolphins in the Loch or taking a boat trip to see minke whales further out near the bird colony on the Shiant Islands.
Longa House itself is finished to a high standard with parking for six cars. Entering the back door brings you to the laundry/boot room, with four bedrooms and two bathrooms along the corridor. Emerging from here you enter the open-plan kitchen/dining area leading to the lower living room that juts out towards the sea and enjoys floor to ceiling views from the vaulted glass windows. The well-equipped kitchen with adjoining larder room provides storage and the dining room comfortably seats sixteen adults. A cosy sun porch facing east from the dining room is perfect for morning coffee.
Up on the first floor there are another four bedrooms, one of which is en-suite. A further bedroom and a study/games area provides plenty space for larger family groups. The unique mezzanine viewing lounge on this upper floor is just the place for a sundowner in hand to enjoy the spectacular seascape views and hear the waves lapping below the house.
Outside the decking surrounding the main living area provides ample seating area to make the most of the landscape. Around the corner the Sauna seating six has windows overlooking the sea, Longa Island and Skye. Enjoying this at dark, cooling under the amazing star-lit sky is sensational as are the Northern Lights! The lawn wraps around the house providing space for playing and outdoor barbecues. From the garden gate, there is a dusty track which takes you down to the shore and on to enjoy the beautiful Big Sand beach.
