Mermaid View is situated in the seaside town of Balintore, less than a ½-mile walk from the beautiful sandy beaches and the enclosed stone harbour, which also is a great place to take your dog. Whilst walking around the town you will understand why the owners of Mermaid View chose that name!
Balintore and its neighbouring village of Shandwick are great for those that enjoy windsurfing, surfing, or kite surfing, you will find an abundance of stunning beaches along the coastline. There are lots of places to visit and activities for all the family, both indoor and outdoor. Wildlife boat trips are available for all the family from Cromarty, which is 9 miles from Balintore, there are also golf courses and activity centres. A visit to Fort George Castle just outside Inverness is one of the mightiest artillery fortifications in Britain after the battle at Culloden in 1746, open to visitors it is well worth a visit if you have inclement weather.
A visit to Shandwick is also very interesting and worth visiting with all the family - you can see the Pictish stone dating back from 800AD, now protected by glass case, with exceptional markings and documentation. There are lots of restaurants in and around the village of Balintore within walking distance, then return back to Mermaid View to enjoy the end of the evening and plan for the next day’s adventures. One thing guaranteed, a week is not long enough to do everything in and around Balintore, so you will also have to plan your return visit to Mermaid View...
