This delightful cottage is close to the heart of Pickering, a quaint market town on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. Oak Cottage is Grade II listed and was built in the 1840s. It has been renovated in 2020 to a good standard and lovingly furnished throughout to provide a comfortable welcoming stay, perfect for couples or for a small family. This cottage benefits from off street private parking located at the rear of the property, and a small south westerly facing enclosed private courtyard with seating area to enjoy breakfasts or evening drinks alfresco. Inside you are greeted by a bright and cosy open plan living area, with a well-equipped kitchen, a dining table with chairs and bench seating. The living area is complete with a wood burner. In an evening you can unwind on the comfortable seating around the Smart TV with Sky TV and access to Freeview, Netflix and Amazon prime, or pick up a book of local interest from the bookshelf. There is nothing like relaxing in front of a real fire after a long day of exploring.
Upstairs in Oak Cottage it is bright and airy with two well-presented bedrooms, the first is spacious with a kingsize bed, the second is rather more cosy with twin beds. The shower room with large corner shower is modern and bathed in sunshine from the sky light. A welcome pack of light refreshments is provided on arrival, complementary toiletries and hand wash is also provided, all eco friendly and organic where possible. We accept one well behaved dog (small/medium sized).
Pickering is a wonderful base for exploring the North Yorkshire Moors and the nearby coastline. Pickering itself is a pretty market town, with a medieval castle. The steam train winds its way from Pickering over the rolling heather, through valleys and over hills to many picturesque villages all the way to Whitby. Ideal for a special day out. In December they even have a themed Christmas Santa Special on the steam train. The North Yorkshire Moors is a haven for walkers with many trails to explore and an abundance of wildlife. Nearby you have Malton the food capital of Yorkshire with a market, award-winning restaurants and a cookery school. Castle Howard is one of Britain’s finest stately homes, sure to fill you with awe. There are also the beaches of Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington. For children why not treat them with a day out to remember at Flamingoland theme park and zoo less than 10 minutes away. Beach 18½ miles. Shop ½ mile, pub and restaurant ¼ mile.
