Oystercatcher is a traditional stone fishing cottage, adjacent to the owners’ home, situated just yards from the stunning sandy bay of Embo in picturesque Sutherland. This pretty terraced cottage has been in the same family since it was built in the 1900’s. It has been refurbished and now provides warm, welcoming accommodation in a quiet lane that leads directly onto the beach. The living room is attractively presented, whilst the kitchen/dining room is located at the rear of the cottage. It is bright and modern with built-in units and very well equipped. The back door leads out to a lovely courtyard garden with garden furniture. Upstairs there are two bedrooms, all prettily presented, sleeping up to three guests. A modern family sized bathroom completes the picture.
Embo is a small, mainly stone village that historically looks to the sea for its livelihood. These days the wide sandy beach with pretty small harbour is popular with visitors wishing to enjoy the totally unspoilt seaside location. There is a small village store, and from Easter to October the nearby holiday site has the facilities of a restaurant and bar which is open to all. There is a superb walk along the beach to the adjoining village of Dornoch, famous for its championship golf course and 13th-century cathedral, which dominates the village centre. Made of mellow sandstone with beautiful stained glass windows, it is well worth a visit. There are a good variety of unusual and interesting shops here as well as excellent restaurants and bars. The region is designated as a National Scenic Area, with wonderful wildlife and fascinating historical sites. On the edge of Embo is Loch Fleet, which has a myriad of bird life as well as seals and some wonderful nature walks. Fishing can also be found nearby. Just a short drive away is Dunrobin Castle, seat of the Dukes of Sutherland for over 600 years. Visitors are welcome to explore the castle and grounds, which were modelled on the Palace of Versailles. Situated just off the route of the renowned North Coast 500, which encompasses some of the most scenic sites to be found anywhere in the British Isles, Oystercatcher makes an ideal base for exploring the whole of the Highland region. Beach 200 yards. Shop 400 yards, pub 500 yards (Apr-Oct), restaurant 3 miles.
