Whitby is a town rich in history and culture. The iconic Whitby Abbey perched high on the cliffs, inspired the setting for Dracula and offers breathtaking views after climbing the famous 199 steps.
The town is also home to the Captain Cook Memorial Museum, celebrating the town’s seafaring heritage, and the whalebone arch, which symbolizes Whitby’s whaling history. The East Side and Old Town have been inspiring visitors, Artists, and writers for over 1500 years and are probably most famously featured in Bram Stoker’s Gothic novel "Dracula". Just imagine being where Stoker immortalized the black hound escaping up the 199 steps from the ship-wrecked Demeter on Tate Hill Sands, all literally on the doorstep of Quincey Cottage Whitby!
Throughout the year, Whitby hosts a variety of unique events, including goth, steampunk, folk, soul, blues, and pirate weekends, as well as the annual Whitby Regatta, making it a vibrant and captivating destination for all.
