Brightlingsea is a lovely and quaint seaside town with a boating lake, beaches and a lively busy harbour with boat trips available throughout the summer. The countryside around Brightlingsea is stunning and the area is perfect for walking and cycling. The town has a number of good pubs, cafes and restaurants, and is known for its three excellent fish and chip shops. It is conveniently located to explore the coast of Essex or, further inland, the county town of Colchester, Britain’s oldest recorded town, with a castle, museums, art gallery, many Roman remains, a good shopping centre, Colchester Zoo and a rail link to London (40 minutes). Mersea Island is nearby, where visitors can sample the locally caught fish and oysters, as well as its sailing and beaches. Beach 150 yards. Shop 10 yards, pub 15 yards and restaurant 100 yards.
