In the early 1800s, William Wordsworth bought The Coach House (and White Moss House next door) for his son. Families will be delighted with the 1-acre of lawned private gardens with mature trees, which features an old quarry cave looming behind the house. With views over to Loughrigg Fell you really feel like you are in the heart of the Lake District. Red squirrel and deer are regular visitors to the gardens, and with large French doors in the living room you have the perfect spot to watch as they scurry by. For the days you just want to relax at the cottage, The Coach House is ideally equipped with large bedrooms, stylish bathrooms and a spacious open plan living area.
The popular White Moss walk starts just a couple of minutes’ stroll outside the front door, and before the walk you can take a quick peek at the waterfall found just outside the garden walls. Rydal Water and Grasmere Lake are both an easy stroll direct from the cottage.
The pretty village of Grasmere is just down the road, where you can explore Dove Cottage, famous as one of Wordsworth’s earlier homes where he and his sister spent 8 years of ‘plain living, but high thinking’. It was here he wrote his most famous work, ‘I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud’, and is now a fantastic museum about the writer. Grasmere also offers a selection of bars and restaurants, tea rooms and independent shops, where you can try some of the world famous Grasmere gingerbread. Slightly further afield, but not too far, explore Ambleside and Windermere, where you can enjoy steamer rides, the World of Beatrix Potter, rowing or swing amongst the treetops at Go Ape. Beach 22 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.
