Boulmer (pronounced Boomer) is a pretty coastal village with very little through traffic. Once the haunt of smugglers, it is one of the true Northumbrian fishing villages which remains virtually untouched by time. Meander along the water’s edge and watch the fishermen return with their daily catch of lobsters, crabs and salmon. The picture perfect seaside village of Alnmouth is less than a 3-mile stroll along the coastline and where there are pubs, shops and tea rooms available. There are two golf courses here too.
A short drive inland brings you to the historic market town of Alnwick where there is a wider array of facilities available. Visitors will enjoy a trip to Alnwick Garden with its grand cascade waterfall and tree house restaurant. Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke of Northumberland and film set for Harry Potter’s Hogwarts, is well worth a visit. The Gap is a superb choice for those seeking stylish self-catering accommodation conveniently situated only a gentle stroll from the seashore of the beautiful Northumbrian coastline which is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Beach ½ mile. Shop 3 miles, pub and restaurant ½ mile.
