Built around 1909 by the RFC Royal Flying Corps by 1919 the RFC moved to Manston and the four airfield buildings were acquired by a local builder and converted into dwellings, two of which were purchased by the author Edith Nesbit (The Railway Children) with her husband who had been the skipper of the Woolwich ferry, they named them Long Boat and Jolly Boat. The property has several pieces of furniture owned by the author which remain in use to this day.
