The Long Barn, sitting peacefully amongst sheep pasture, is a walker’s haven, surrounded by miles of footpaths and bridleways across farmland and moor, whilst a lovely flat walk along the old railway line brings you into the scenic village of Goathland. Here you will find some fabulous country pubs serving good food, as well as a row of quaint shops and cafés. The village was famously known as Aidensfield in the TV series ’Heartbeat’, and you may recognise some of the buildings here, such as the Aidensfield Arms pub (the Goathland Inn). Enjoy a walk up onto the moors, down to the Mallyan Spout waterfall or follow the Rail Trail to Grosmont and return by steam trail.
An outing on the North Yorks Steam Railway is a trip back in time, as it winds its way through the moors, all the way to bustling, historic Whitby on the coast or the delightful market town of Pickering inland. Whitby offers many attractions, with its famous Abbey, the infamous 199 Steps, long, sandy beaches and cobbled streets. Guests are spoilt for choice with the numerous restaurants, coffee shops, independent shops and museums in this quaint town, as well as its charming harbour and renowned fish and chips. Visit Staithes, Runswick Bay and Robin Hood’s Bay, all delightful destinations for a scenic day out on the Yorkshire Coast.
