Originally a “Blackhouse”, the traditional name for a Crofter’s cottage, The Old Croft has been renovated to provide inviting, great quality spacious accommodation for a couple to cosy up. Perched on the hillside above the croft with lovely glen views, The Old Croft is nestled in the Strontian Glen, in the crofting hamlet of Anaheilt, just a short drive from the village of Strontian, which lies at the head of Loch Sunart. Outside, you are surrounded by the countryside sights and sounds, including horses grazing nearby. The natural garden offers great views and behind the house is a sheltered seating area perfect for a barbecue. A handy shed has been provided by the owner for storage of cycles and drying outdoor gear. Strontian sits on the stunning Ardnamurchan peninsula and is a lovely welcoming community with shops, a large licenced convenience store which stocks locally produced food items as well as coal, logs and kindling, cafés, Post Office, pub, restaurants, GP surgery, library and church.
There are often cultural and community events held at the Sunart Centre. The village is surrounded by ancient woods with oak trees and giant redwoods – look out for the Ariundle Oakwoods with visitor centre where there are often events happening. Enjoy walk exploring the meandering paths leading up to the open moor or strolling along the beautiful shoreline where otters and sea eagles can be easily spotted. The rest of the peninsula has much to offer, including a variety of opportunities for walking, there are a number of ’Corbett’ mountains, the stunning Loch Sunart, Ardnamurchan Lighthouse at the most westerly tip of the British Isles and the Ardmamurchan Distillery. There are pristine, sandy beaches along the coast, including Sanna Bay with its impressive white sand dunes and Ardtoe Beach with white sandy coves, both with stunning views. There is an abundance of wildlife, seabirds, seals, otters, deer, pine martens, as well as dolphin/whale watching. You can rent mountain bikes in the village and go for local kayak trips. This peaceful and tranquil place offers a truly ‘get away from it all’ experience and the views will amaze you - so come and relax.
