Step outside and you’ll find yourself in the bustling centre of Haltwhistle, with a range of shops, restaurants, and cafés right on your doorstep. Haltwhistle is set in the heart of over 2000 years of history and is the geographical centre of Britain. Located beside the River South Tyne, Haltwhistle is the closest town to the centre of Hadrian’s Wall World Heritage Site and the Northumberland National Park, both being roughly 2 miles away.
It’s a great base for exploring, and Carlisle, Gretna and south west Scotland are within an hour’s drive away. Kielder Water is to the north, and to the east is the Northumbrian coast and the city of Newcastle. To the south are the northern Pennines - an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
If you’re looking for a fun day out, why not head to Alnwick Castle? This magnificent castle is one of the most iconic landmarks in Northumberland, and has been featured in the famous Harry Potter movies. You can explore the castle’s stunning gardens, take a guided tour of the castle itself, or have tea in the magnificent treehouse restaurant. For those who love the coast, there are plenty of picturesque villages to explore. From the quaint fishing village of Seahouses to the charming town of Bamburgh, you’ll find plenty of beautiful beaches, scenic walks, and delicious seafood to enjoy.
