Enjoy a traditional Sussex village this was once the doctor’s surgery that has been beautifully transformed to offer exceptional and spacious accommodation for two in the heart of Ditchling village. For those looking to enjoy the benefits of village life it has village pub, deli, newsagent and tea rooms all within a few yards of the doorstep. The splendour of the South Downs and Ditchling Beacon is less than ½-mile away, this could not be a better setting. Set next to the owners’ home and their friendly dog, guests have access to the owners’ garden offering them a lovely private cottage garden area to relax. The Old Surgery is on one level with a spacious living room and a comprehensive kitchen set neatly at the end. Next to the kitchen is a cloakroom and beyond the kitchen is a kingsize bedroom, off the bedroom is a shower room. Although the property is on one level it is accessed from the street by a flight of stairs so may not be suitable for those with reduced mobility.
Ditchling is at the foot of the South Downs its heart forms a crossroads which link to the other nearby villages of Keymer and Westmeston similarly located along the foot of the scarp slopes of the Downs. Ditchling has remained unspoilt over the centuries and has many examples of period Tudor buildings. Wings Place is a fine Tudor building across the road from St Margaret’s church once known as Anne of Cleves House, the house looks particularly imposing when viewed from the church with the backdrop of the Downs immediately behind. The village has kept the period tradition and tea rooms and the village deli fit perfectly into these traditional village surroundings. Ditchling Beacon is a short but testing climb should you choose to walk it or even cycle up. At 814 feet it is the third highest point along the South Downs and offers fantastic views both along the Downs and north across the Sussex Weald. The South Downs Way passes through the Beacon giving you the opportunity to walk both east and west along this national trail virtually from your doorstep. Head south over Ditchling Beacon and the Downs gradually slope away towards Brighton. This lively and bustling city has lots to offer, one of its most famous landmarks is the Royal Pavilion the spectacular seaside palace of the Prince Regent (George IV) and the Regency heritage of this period is much in evidence in the city. Lewes 7 miles is the county town of East Sussex, its castle overlooks the town and is open to visitors as is the Barbican Museum, Lewes is famous for its bonfire celebrations and each year these are attended by thousands of visitors. Glyndebourne the world famous and world class opera house is a further 3 miles from Lewes, Glyndebourne restarted and reinvigorated opera in England and today it offers unique presentations in the Sussex countryside attracting world leading performers. There is local bus service to Hassocks and Brighton and mainline rail service at Hassocks for services to Gatwick Airport, London Victoria and Brighton. Shop, pub and restaurant 50 yards.
