Just a short drive from Hadrian’s Wall and an even shorter walk from the historic town of Hexham, you will find The Tiny Chapel. This aptly named Northumberland gem is a converted, 19th-century chapel and sleeps up to four guests across two en-suite bedrooms (perfect for small families). There’s a south-facing stone patio and you’re sure to fall in love the moment you cross the threshold.
The Tiny Chapel has been meticulously converted by the owners, with modern conveniences working in perfect unison with period features. Such details include the original stone exterior, arched chapel windows, exposed timber beams, and a gorgeous, vaulted ceiling. Besides its abundance of rustic charm, it has all the mod cons needed for a relaxing countryside retreat.
The ground floor houses the gorgeous open-planned communal space. The kitchen area is well equipped, and there is a dining table which easily seats four making meal times a joy. The living area has two comfortable couches, a coffee table, a Smart TV, a Bluetooth sound system with B&W ceiling speakers, and a wood burner to keep you nice and warm in winter. Step outside the patio doors and into the back garden, where you will find the decking area with outdoor furniture, a hot tub, and lovely 180-degree views of the Northumberland countryside. This is the ideal spot for a morning coffee or a nice glass of something and a BBQ.
Head back inside and ascend the feature staircase to get to the bedrooms. Both sit under stunning vaulted, timber-framed ceilings. The master bedroom has a freestanding bath in the room, and a stunning, hand-made, timber kingsize bed with Tempur mattress, while the second bedroom has two equally lovely singles.
Nearby Hexham is a historic market town with lovely shops, cafés, pubs, and restaurants. If you want to experience some of the arresting northern countryside, then you’re in luck. The stunning Northumberland coast is within an hour’s drive with an array of historic castles and white sandy beaches. The North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is a short drive south of Hexham, while Northumberland National Park is not far to the north. Ancient Hadrian’s Wall is also nearby.
Approximately 30 minutes drive east you will come to Newcastle upon Tyne, which is the largest city in northeast England. The city is a hub of science, finance, retail, education, tourism and nightlife. Notable landmarks include the Tyne Bridge, Newcastle Castle, St Thomas’ Church, the Millennium Bridge, St James’ Park and Chinatown.
