Westways is a detached bungalow built in the 1950s and fully renovated in 2021 to meet modern standards. It nestles in the south Herefordshire Hills just outside the pretty market town of Ross on Wye and is on the edge of the northern border of the Forest of Dean.
It is secluded, enjoying lovely views of the surrounding area, and it has walks from the door joining The Wye Valley Walk. There is a good-sized garden surrounding the property, as well as an orchard with apple, pear, and plum trees, which guests can enjoy.
A real bonus for guests is exclusive use of the owner’s indoor heated swimming pool. Times can be agreed upon when you arrive. It is equipped with a countercurrent swim jet for those looking to take part in a more active workout.
There is an excellent local pub, The Mill Race, with great food and a large beer garden within walking distance. Also within walking distance is Vinyard, Wythall Estate, providing tours and tastings offering prize-winning wines. You can access the Wye Valley walk from the back door.
Further afield from the property, you are within a short driving distance of a canoe launch for an adventurous day out in the famous Wye Valley.
The beautiful market town of Ross-on-Wye is just 1½ miles away, with many independent shops, a Vintage Trail and a large range of pubs and restaurants, including many takeaways if guests are looking to enjoy a quiet evening.
There is a vibrant market on Thursdays and an ancient Market House where there is a permanent exhibition of local arts and crafts. There are buggy-friendly riverside walks with a playpark, cafes and pubs and plenty of space for picnics. In the summer there are opportunities to try Wild Swimming and Paddle Boarding and there is often music at the bandstand. The Famous Symonds Yat Rock with the classic view of the Wye Valley is a short drive away and the riverside at Symonds Yat East is a beautiful centre for canoeists and has tourist boat trips in the summer. Ross is known for being the first place that introduced Tourism and it is easy to see why.
Westways is also close to the Forest of Dean where there are bike trails, Sculpture Trails and the family-friendly Beechenhurst with playparks and a cafe. Also within an hour’s drive are the Malvern Hills, Welsh Mountains, Bristol, Cardiff and Birmingham so you will not be short of places to visit.
