The village is close to Chesterfield with great walking on the canal towpath known as The Cuckoo Way. The Trans-Pennine Trail is also close by and is just the ticket for walkers and cyclists. Look out for the brass monkey on The Clocktower and it was said that its tail pointed upwards when the Staveley Coal and Iron Company was in profit, and downwards if it made a loss! There are lots of good local walks from the doorstep and with easy access to the Peak District, walkers will be spoilt for choice.
