Lying at the southernmost point of Kent is the hamlet of Dungeness. This area represents some of the most diverse examples of stable vegetated shingle in Europe. Made up of predominantly flint shingle, it is thought that the beach ridge dates from the 8th century AD. This tiny fishing town is renowned for its unique beauty, its weathered wood cabins and abandoned fishing boats. As a magnet for all kinds of bird life, grab your binoculars and head over to the RSPB Dungeness Nature Reserve. This circular trail leads you through wildflower meadows, shingle ridges and marshland, perfect whatever the season. This is great cycling terrain, especially as Romney Marsh is flat as a pancake, so whatever your ability, you'll be having an adventure around this spectacular Kent countryside in no time! However you discover this area do it from the comfort of one of our Dungeness cottages.
