Bedale has some lovely Georgian buildings but its history stretches back to medieval times and is mentioned in the Doomsday Book. For day out ideas visit Bedale Hall which is a fine example of Georgian architecture and Jervaulx Abbey; one of England’s most notable Cistercian abbeys. Also of interest is Snape Castle Chapel, which is not open to the public but presents a striking structure.

Many local Yorkshire beers are produced at the breweries in the region which offer visitor attraction facilities and tours, including Theakstons Brewery and Black Sheep Brewery located at picturesque Masham. More family orientated fun comes in the form of Ariel Extreme, comprising of rope bridges, climbing wall, mid-air jumps and an exhilarating ‘free-fall’!
