Northallerton Cottages
The bustling and thriving market town of Northallerton is conveniently located in ‘Herriot Country’, sandwiched between two national parks; The Yorkshire Dales National Park and the North York Moors National Park, making it perfect for great days out in some of Britain’s most beautiful landscapes.

‘Heriot Country’, which takes its name from the famous local vet, James Herriot, is in its own right a most charming region, with rolling hills, picturesque valleys and rich pastureland. Northallerton has, like many towns and villages in the area, a rich heritage that stretches back to medieval times. The Church of All Saints dates back to 1120 and the Fleece Inn, one of the oldest pubs in town, was the place where Charles Dickens stayed in the 1800s.

The town has plenty of independent shops, restaurants and tea rooms and a lovely wide High Street showcasing some fine Georgian architecture. Don’t miss the twice weekly market every Wednesday and Saturday, where you can buy fresh local produce.

This is a great location for your cottage holiday in Yorkshire; with excellent walks close by including access to the Cleveland Way, the Coast to Coast Path and the Lyke Wake Walk which are all on the doorstep. For fun days out exploring ‘Herriot Country’ hop aboard the Wensleydale Railway, which operates between Leeming Bar and Redmire, and covers some 16 miles of stunning Yorkshire Dales scenery.

The North York Moors National Park and the Yorkshire Dales National Park both offer very distinctive and equally delightful days out, with their unique landscapes of dramatic open rolling heather moorland and famous Yorkshire dales respectively. In both regions there are superb walking and cycling routes.
